What is Myofascial Release?
Myofascial Release (MFR) is a full body practice that uses therapy balls to soften tension throughout the body’s connective tissue know as fascia.
Fascia is the web-like tissue that surrounds muscles, joints, and organs. When it becomes dehydrated, compressed, or over-loaded (often through stress, repetitive movement, injury, or long periods of sitting), it can contribute to stiffness, discomfort, and a feeling of restriction in the body.
Unlike stretching, which targets muscles, myofascial release works more deeply and subtly, inviting the tissue to soften, rehydrate, and regain its natural glide.
Where Myofascial Release Can Help
Progressive Fascia release work is particularly supportive for people experiencing:
Persistent tightness in hips, shoulders, or lower back
Discomfort linked to desk work or repetitive movement
A sense of stiffness that doesn’t respond to stretching
Stress held physically in the body
Recovery from old injuries (within appropriate limits)
A desire to move more freely without pushing or forcing
Many students come to YinWave after noticing how life-tension in the body builds over time and finally want to find a reliable release valve for it.
What to expect in a Fascia Class
A typical myofascial release class at YinWave includes:
Padded ground mats and therapy balls
No more than 2-3 target areas in the body per class
Quite a bit of stabilisation work - your muscles will feel worked afterwards!
Anatomical education - I will teach you whats working & why
Cross body work - you’ll notice where your body over & under compensates.
No prior experience is required. I’ll take you through steps. Just show up.
YinWave offers regular fascia-focused classes at our studio in South Croydon, CR2 9BX, along with occasional workshops that explore specific areas of the body in more depth.
Current offerings may include:
Weekly fascia-focused Yin classes
Short course arcs exploring hips, shoulders, or spine

Please check the timetable for current class times and availability.
Stress, repetitive movement, injury, and long periods of sitting can cause fascia to become tight and restricted, leading to stiffness and discomfort.
Using specially designed therapy balls, we apply sustained pressure to areas of tension, helping the tissue soften, rehydrate, and move more freely again. Unlike traditional stretching, this work reaches deeper layers of the body, encouraging lasting release and ease.
